Criminal Justice Coordinating Council Releases Updated Data on Violent Crime Incidents and Arrests Year-To-Date (May 31, 2024)

Tuesday, June 11, 2024

(Washington, D.C.) – The Criminal Justice Coordinating Council (CJCC) is pleased to announce its release of updated data on violent crime incidents and arrests year-to-date (through May 31, 2024), in keeping with the "Secure DC Omnibus Amendment Act of 2024”.

The dashboards can be accessed at this link: https://dcjsat.net/PSJ_Reports_Home.html .

Key takeaways from this data include: a 26% reduction in violent crime, a 21% reduction in homicides, and a 32% increase in violent crime arrests, year-to-date through May 31, 2024.

The data used to conduct this analysis originated from the Metropolitan Police Department’s (MPD) records management systems. Data are entered into these systems manually and may be subject to error. While the data is provided in an automated fashion, it is still extracted and cleaned manually which may result in some human error.
