Criminal Justice Coordinating Council Releases Data on Initial Pretrial Release Decisions for Adults and Juveniles

Wednesday, August 14, 2024

(Washington, D.C.) – The Criminal Justice Coordinating Council is pleased to announce the publication of data on initial release decisions for adults in calendar year 2023, and juveniles from January 1, 2024 to March 31, 2024, in keeping with the "Secure DC Omnibus Amendment Act of 2024”.

The dashboards can be accessed at this link: https://dcjsat.net/PSJ_Reports_Home.html.

The data used to conduct the adult analysis originated from the Pretrial Services Agency. The data used to conduct the juvenile analysis originated from the District of Columbia Court System; a small number of cases were removed from the juvenile analysis to ensure compliance with data suppression requirements.

Based on the analysis, during the respective time frames, most adults charged with a violent offense and about half of juveniles charged with a violent offense were securely detained after their initial appearance in court. The nature of the violent offenses included burglary and robbery as well as aggravated assault and homicide.
