Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services 2012 Mid-Year Public Safety Update

Friday, September 28, 2012

The Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services (DYRS) is committed to promoting public safety through the effective rehabilitation of the youth in its care. There are many factors that influence the public safety outcomes for youth in the District of Columbia, including several that are beyond DYRS’s control. Nevertheless, through effective engagement, proper supervision and appropriate treatment, DYRS has a direct role in guiding court-involved youth toward better decision-making. While there are many possible causes, the data for the first eight months of calendar year 2012 show clear and significant public safety gains for DYRS youth. For more information, review the DYRS 2012 Mid-Year Safety Update.
