Public Safety and Justice in the District of Columbia: 2009 - 2014

This report is based on publicly obtained information from District of Columbia (District) criminal justice agencies. The report provides an overview of crime and the administration of justice in the District of Columbia’s (District) criminal justice system between 2009 and 2014. The purpose is to provide readers with an easily accessible document that brings together in a single report social, economic, crime, and justice trends in the District.

This report begins with an executive summary that summarizes the research highlights. The body of the report is organized into three sections:

I.                  The District’s Social and Economic Context

II.                 Crime in the District

III.               The Administration of Justice

Each section includes tabular information, substantial data, and statistics obtained from the respective criminal and juvenile justice agencies in the District of Columbia.  For further information obtained on specific agencies, readers are encouraged to visit the websites of those agencies in this report.
